What does it take to be a hero?
"Bravery." "Courage." Heroes are brave and courageous but they are also generous because they give their time energy and sometimes their lives to help others. Do you know any heroes? Firefighters, police officers, and emergency responders are all heroes. But they aren't the only heroes. Your parents, grandparents, siblings, or relatives might be heroes too. You might even be a hero! Heroes are individuals who do extraordinary things. They might protect us from a fire, provide help during floods, or secure a building after a crime. Heroes show courage. They are admirable for all that they do and all that they give.
This week you will learn how heroes rescue, help, and protect people. You will also learn that heroes are brave and generous people who do good deeds.

Literary ElementsThe characters are the people in the story.
The setting is where/when the story takes place. The plot is what happened in the story. The theme is the big idea/meaning of the story. Readers identify literary elements as an initial starting point to help them understand the story. Knowing who the characters are, the setting and where the story takes place , the plot and what happens in the text, and the theme and the big idea of the story, are all extremely important to understand and comprehend the story. Often, when a reader understands the literary elements, they can anticipate what will come next in the story. For example, if you know the characters and how they act and think, you can guess how they will react to new situations that develop in the plot of the story. This is a great strategy to building comprehension!
