[SCHOLASTIC SCHOLARS / WORDSMITH / PAINTING WITH WORDS] - Today in Scholastic Scholars we did a Close Read for The Year of the Rat. We learned about Point of View. A First-Person Narrator is a character in the story who tells his or her own thoughts and feelings. A Third-Person Narrator is someone outside of the story who tells the thoughts/feelings of others. We also looked at the skill of Monitoring and Clarifying. As you read, you will monitor, or keep track of, how well you understand a text. When you don’t understand something, you should pause to clarify, or check, the information or vocabulary that is unclear. Lastly, we learned about Characters. Authors develop characters in different ways. Authors may describe how a character looks, feels, thinks, and acts. Authors also tell the readers about a character through the character’s words and what he or she says/thinks. In Painting with Words, we learned more about our Personal Narrative Rubric! That tells us what we need to include in our story.
